What is an Orthopedic Assessment?

During the injury recovery process, this orthopedic assessment allows our sports massage therapist to treat each patient for the right thing. It’s important to orthopedic manual therapy as it allows us to determine the underlying cause of someone’s injury. This is important in finding the most effective treatment approach for each client. The tools uses with orthopedic assessment include: active and passive range of motion as well as manual resistance. A series of orthopedic assessment tests are also used for specific conditions, so the complete testing pattern will vary client to client.

Written Restorative Exercise Plan

A written restorative exercise plan includes goals and movement assessment findings. By creating this document, the client and our sports massage therapist can work together to determine the best treatment options for their particular findings and goals for the procedures. Some common goals are to restore full range of motion and function, regain gait, muscle strength, endurance and overall skills.

After-Care Coaching

While our goal is to help our clients to recover from sports injuries, we also take great pride on building a healthy relationship with them. This means that we follow up to ensure that their goals are being met, there have been no changes in how they feel and no subsequent injuries have occurred. This after-care coaching is a valuable tool in ensuring that not only our injury recovery process works effectively, but that it benefits every client for their overall well-being.

What is Movement Assessment?

During this orthopedic assessment testing, a movement assessment is conducted. The stress and assess approach adds stress to the client’s body. If the structure is healthy, no pain will be felt. However, if it isn’t, the client will fee pain and other symptoms. This makes the procedure position, meaning that the overall structure isn’t healthy. The best assessment tests are ones that are the most specific in finding pain.

Some of the most popular orthopedic assessment tests include and are not limited to: space-occupying lesion tests (cough test, straight leg raise, slump test), tests for injured tissues (such as active and passive SLR and other specific tests). SLR, cough and slump tests are all used to assess the lumbar spine and buttocks. This looks for bulging or herniated discs and bone spurs. The active and passive SLR tests are looking for sprains and strains throughout the body.

How does massage relieve stress?

How does massage effect the nervous system?

When is the best time to receive massage?

Do I need to be fully nude to receive massage?

While each and every massage is different, the client has the ultimate say in their level of comfort during the massage. The entire intent of massage therapy is for the client to be 100% comfortable and able to relax, and focus, for the entirety of the massage. Some clients prefer to be fully nude, others decide to keep some articles of clothing on. Sometimes choosing to wear clothing can interfere with the level of access to muscles that the therapist has, but it truly is up to the therapist and the client, to decide what would be most ideal and effective for each massage session. 

How do I know what type of massage to get?

Massage is a highly personalized healthcare modality. When you choose your therapist, do not hesitate to ask all the questions you need to, so that you can receive the best level of care for your particular needs. Finding a therapist that specializes in a certain modality is not as necessary if you don’t have specific goals to use massage to achieve.
